Deep in the Nakanomata gorge in the Ani district of Kitaakita, Yasu Falls descends roughly 90 meters in two clean movements: a main upper drop of 60 meters, then a lower fall of 30 meters. Between the two levels lies the basin of the first waterfall — a broad natural terrace that, unusually for a fall of this scale, can be hiked to without difficulty, letting visitors stand at the midpoint of the cascade. The falls belong to the Yoneshiro River system in Akita's Ani district, and the Ministry of the Environment named Yasu one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls in 1990.
