Suzu Falls (鈴ヶ滝) — waterfall in Niigata, Japan

Suzu Falls

鈴ヶ滝
Top 100 Chubu Niigata Prefecture ↓ 55 m

Water volume makes Suzu Falls. The cascade drops 55 meters — with a width of about 10 meters, though accounts vary — on the main Suzutani stream at the headwaters of the Takane River, a tributary of the Miomote River in Murakami, Niigata Prefecture. It stands on the western flank of the Asahi mountain range, just barely outside the designated boundary of Bandai-Asahi National Park. When the flow runs high, the falls turn at once powerful and graceful, and this is when they show their best form. Visitors can descend all the way to the plunge pool and stand in the spray — an unusually close encounter for a fall of this height.

Visiting Suzu Falls

From the open area near the falls, a short walk up the forest road leads to a viewpoint looking at Suzu Falls from upstream. It is also possible to go down to the plunge pool itself and feel the spray. The falls are in Murakami, Niigata Prefecture, on the west side of the Asahi range.
