Senga Falls is the rare Top 100 waterfall that asks almost nothing of its visitors. The 30-meter fall drops within the Shōsenkyō canyon on the Arakawa River — an upper tributary of the Fuji River — in northern Kōfu, Yamanashi Prefecture, and stands about a five-minute walk from a parking lot. Shōsenkyō itself is recognized by the national government as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, the higher of Japan's two scenic-designation tiers, so the waterfall arrives as the centerpiece of an already protected landscape. Large numbers of visitors come during the autumn foliage season, when the canyon and the falls draw their biggest crowds of the year.
Visiting Senga Falls
The falls sit in the Shōsenkyō canyon in northern Kōfu, Yamanashi Prefecture, roughly a five-minute walk from a parking lot — among the easiest approaches of any waterfall on the Top 100 list. Autumn foliage season is the busiest time to visit.
