Kyoto Prefecture, for all its celebrated landscapes, has exactly one waterfall on Japan's official Top 100 list — and this is it. Kanabiki no Taki, at Takiba in Miyazu City, is really three falls under one name: Kanabiki itself, whose flow divides into a male fall (Odaki) and a female fall (Medaki), together with the Hakuryu, the "white dragon," and the Garyu, the "reclining dragon." The ensemble stands about 40 meters high and spreads roughly 20 meters wide on the upper Takiba River, a tributary of the Ote River. Even the hamlet's name, Takiba — "waterfall place" — concedes that the falls define the locality.
