A postage stamp made Harafudo Falls a national image. When Japan issued its quasi-national park stamp series in 1969, the design chosen to represent the Hyonosen-Ushiroyama-Nagisan Quasi-National Park was this 88-meter waterfall at Hara, in the Haga district of Shiso City, Hyogo Prefecture. The choice says something about the competition it beat: the sources describe the park as a treasury of celebrated falls, and Harafudo as its representative masterpiece. Its name carries the Buddhist deity Fudo, a dedication common to falls associated with devotion and practice, and treated here as part of the site's identity. It holds a place among Japan's official Top 100 Waterfalls.
