Shiraito Falls at Fujinomiya is the most famous of Japan's 'white thread' waterfalls, and its credentials are hard to match: an official Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument, one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, sometimes counted among the country's three finest falls — and a registered component of the Fujisan World Cultural Heritage site, 'Mount Fuji: Object of Worship, Wellspring of Art.' Spring water filtered through Fuji's lava layers emerges along a broad, curved cliff and falls about 20 meters in hundreds of fine parallel strands, so the entire rock face appears hung with white silk. The adjacent Otodome Falls shares the site and the fame.
Visiting Shiraito Falls (Shizuoka)
The falls stand in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, on the southwestern flank of Mount Fuji, paired with neighboring Otodome Falls; together they form one of the region's best-known sights and a natural stop on any Fuji-area itinerary.
