Nishishiiya Falls (西椎屋の滝) — waterfall in Oita, Japan

Nishishiiya Falls

西椎屋の滝
Top 100 Kyushu Oita Prefecture ↓ 86 m

Nishishiiya Falls is the western sibling of a famous pair. Falling 86 meters in the town of Kusu — right on its boundary with the Innai area of Usa City — it stands a shade taller than its eastern counterpart, Higashishiiya Falls, and together with Fukino Falls the two make up the "Three Falls of Usa," northern Oita's celebrated trio of cascades. Its position on a municipal border is fitting: the waterfall belongs as much to the Kusu highlands as to the Usa valley system that made the three falls a shared local identity. At 86 meters, it is the tallest of Oita's four Top-100 waterfalls.
